The illegal downloaders’ Oscar goes to: District 9!

Indeed, the most torrented movie among the 10 nominated for an Oscar was “District 9.” Being one of my personal favourites, I’m happy to see that the movie is extremely popular among the general public (contrary to the Academy which didn’t even consider one win for this awesome flick).

At the same time however, imagine the amount of ticket/DVD/Blu-ray sales that have gone to waste. As a consolation to the studio however, it’s to be remembered that on a budget of $30 million, it grossed more than $200 million worldwide.

With 12,639,000 downloads bring it to the top, District 9 is followed by “Avatar,” then followed by “The Hurt Locker,” “Up” (so many naughty downloading 7-year-olds?), and “Inglourious Basterds.” At the very end of the freeloading preference table came Bulllock’s “The Blind Side” and “An Education.”

Blushing Pluto Caught on Cam!

Funny title eh? Just to catch your attention!

Images taken by the Hubble Space Telescope have revealed some unusual and colourful changes to the surface of Pluto.

Nasa says the dwarf planet on the edge of our solar system is becoming increasingly red. Its illuminated northern hemisphere is also getting brighter. Nasa’s scientists believe these are seasonal changes – as the planet heads into a new phase of its 248-year-long seasonal cycle.

“These changes are most likely consequences of surface ice melting on the sunlit pole and then re-freezing on the other pole,” Nasa’s Space Telescope Science Institute said in a statement. The overall colour is probably a result of ultraviolet radiation from the distant Sun breaking up methane on Pluto’s surface. This, scientists say, would leave behind a red carbon-rich residue. But some astronomers have expressed shock at the changes.

World’s First Recorded Song!

1950s? 1940s? 1930s? Think again.

It’s actually in the 1860s.

In March 2008 a recording by Frenchman Edouard-Leon Scott de Martinville of a woman singing ‘Au Clair De La Lune’ was discovered in an archive in Paris by a group of American audio historians. The recording dates back to April 9, 1860 making it the world’s first known recorded song.

It’s practically not decipherable, especially when it’s only 10 seconds long. Nonetheless, you can still listen to it (Click on the image below).

Super AMOLED Explained

Samsung’s Super AMOLED appears to have licked the outdoor readability issue while bettering the features that made us fall in love with AMOLEDs in the first place. First off, it’s thinner since the touch sensors are now integrated into the display; colors are more vivid due to the removal of the obfuscating touch sensor layer that sits on top of TFT LCD and traditional AMOLED touchscreen displays; and even the viewing angle has been improved. See the video below to know more.

Dell Streak Leaked

I want one!

Finally after all those teases and constant leaks, Dell seems to be getting ready with their first advertisements for the upcoming slate (see below), called Dell Streak (codename maybe?) and while we already knew about the 5-inch WVGA (800 x 480) capacitive touchscreen, 5 megapixel camera with autofocus and flash, capacitive touch front buttons, front-facing VGA camera for video chatting and the 30-pin docking connector, no one thought Dell would offer this sexy tablet with a range of vivacious color options!

Just to recall your memory, the Dell Streak runs a 1Ghz Snapdragon processor with Android 2.0. It has so far gotten very good reviews from critics alike.

The best part is the Amazon deal herein stated, which obviously won’t be available outside US and/or UK. But just for mentioning, the slate will sport a Kindle e-book reader app, Amazon MP3, Amazon video streams and pretty much any other material that Amazon sells in digital form! Cool, right?
