French Government Votes to Disconnect Illegal downloaders’ Internet – Fair or Unfair?

A controversial French bill which will disconnect people caught downloading content illegally three times has been given final approval. This stringent legislation, backed by their President Nicolas Sarkozy, was surprisingly voted down by the Assembly last month; but is back in the court!

The bill sets a tough global precedent in cracking down on internet piracy, and is being closely watched by other governments as a potential deterrent. By way of precedent ( I know, we had enough of this today in Jurisprudence!), I guess even Malaysia would not hesitate to apply this here. In fact, I can bet upon any amount of money that TM/Streamyx will be extremely excited over this; for finally they don’t have to work harder in providing more bandwidth according to rising demands (which are also driven by illegal downloads in Malaysia).
