Nokia N86 Review: Part 2 [Updated!]
I covered Landscape Photography last week, so this time around, I’m going to focus on Macro shots, known as Close-Up on the Nokia N86‘s camera menu.
Close Ups with Nokia N86
These are various shots, taken at different places under different lighting. No additional settings were changed, I used the preset “Close-up“. Side note; thanks to WOMWorld/Nokia!

Final verdict: Unlike other modes, Close-up requires good lighting for sure, unless you’re willing to spoil the shot with the Flash. On the Nokia N86 8MP, just like on Landscape, certain images could appear dark in spite of good lighting. I’m not sure if this has to do with the exposure time, since I didn’t alter any settings, or else it would have become “User defined”.
On the whole, as you can see from the above images, colour reproduction is obviously natural and vivid. Picking up details goes without saying, provided your hands don’t shake of course. The best shots I’ve gotten were all taken with almost-still handling, or setting the timer and letting the phone shoot by itself (Reason: The unit I received from WOM/Nokia was already overly used, the dedicated Camera button was not properly working, I had to press very deep to snap pictures, and pressing so hard would unquestionably shake the phone or even move away from your initial focus point!). In poor lighting on the other hand, some noise could be seen, although in overall terms, this is easily negligible. Images come with almost-perfect crisp and saturation, no complaints on that part either.
Again, as I’ve stated last week, the wide angle lense is a gift for this camera. Even on Macro mode, the pictures have real life depth in them. For a mobile phone camera, I would frankly say that this is indeed the best I’ve seen disregarding the amount of Mega-Pixels! Mighty mighty!
